There are many books out there with the "Christian" label on there. Some are good, but many have poor theology or no theology. Our churches take theology seriously, so for the benefit of our members and anyone else interested, we recommend books that teach the pure Word of God. Below is a list of a number of good Christian books on a number of topics. This list is very limited. More and more books will be added to the list over time. Happy reading!
The Book of Concord is the confessional writings of the Lutheran Church. It consists of the Creeds of the Christian Church, and the writings of the Lutheran Reformers of the 16th century. Lutherans subscribe to the Book of Concord because it is the correct exposition of Holy Scripture.
The Spirituality of the Cross by Gene Veith "In "The Spirituality of the Cross,' the author discusses in detail the biblical views of 'the first evangelicals,' why and how they satisfy our deep hunger for the spiritual. Topics include; the Word of God, justification by faith, means of grace, worship, theology of the cross, vocation and the two kingdoms and the church."
The Hammer of God by Bo Giertz "Three pastors learn the necessity of relying on God's grace. They fall short of their pastoral duties through public humiliation, self-doubt, inability to accept God's promises in their own lives, and divisions and quarreling among their parishioners. Ultimately each man rejects temptations and permits the Holy Spirit to work through him. This revised edition includes the final chapter, never before published in English."
